Yesterday's Release

Published by: Jerry Zocku on Tuesday 27th October 2009 11:10am
Hey Guys,

We pushed an update to the system last night which includes a number of important updates to Zocku networks.

Firstly, if you restrict access to the Videos tab using Member Levels, it will now also restrict access to watching videos. This is great if you would like to make watching videos on your network premium only.

Secondly, if you set media to Approval Only (videos + photos), when you now approve them, they appear in the homepage activity feed right away. We realised that MANY Zocku networks have to carefully moderate the content on their network and as a result the activity feeds may look a little bare.

Finally, we have now retrospectively activated members on your network to receive your Message All Members if they have previously been active on  your network. From now on, all members will have to opt-in to gain access but all your existing active members will get the emails.

Cheers!

New E-mail verification system now live.

Published by: Henry M on Friday 9th October 2009 02:10pm
Hello Zocku Owners!

From today onwards, anyone who registers to join to your network will be required to verify their E-mail address upon registration. This means that they won't be able to log in until they have done so.

It's a quick process - all they have to do is head to their E-mail Inbox and click the link provided. This is to ensure that all network owners have an up-to-date, accessible database of their members contact information. It will also really improve the delivery rate when you send a 'mass message' to all your members. Nice!

As always - comments/queries/issues can be send to our friendly staff at
support@zocku.com. Thanks.

Attention Network Owners:

Published by: Ryan on Thursday 2nd April 2009 10:04am
Unfortunately, we have had to put in place some temporary limits to the 'Message All Members' function as some network owners have been abusing the system by using this function excessively. This abuse has resulted in some webmail providers tagging emails from Zocku as spam, which then can prevent vital emails, such as 'reset password', from being received. Going forward, we are limiting all networks the ability to 'Message All Members' three times per 7 day period. In the future, we may also moderate the timing of when emails go out so we can manage peak periods. Please understand when using 'Message All Members' that the result may not always be instantaneous. This situation will be reviewed on a weekly basis. In the meantime, we will be implementing more permanent measures to control the abuse so that the majority are not effected.

We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary measure may cause.

Social networks 'are the new email'

Published by: Ryan on Monday 16th March 2009 05:03am

Here’s an interesting article from bbc.co.uk illustrating how the more lightweight and real-time action of setting your user status is rapidly gaining ground on the traditional email as method of choice for keeping your contacts in-the-know.

Here is the full text by Darren Waters

Social networks ‘are new email’

Status updates on sites such as Facebook, Yammer, Twitter and Friendfeed are a new form of communication, the South by SouthWest Festival has heard.

“We are all in the process of creating e-mail 2.0,” David Sacks, founder of business social network Yammer said.

Tens of millions of people are using social networks to stay in touch.

The growth in such services is being heralded as the start of the real-time, pervasive web.

Allow or ban certain e-mail domains from signing up to your network

Published by: Max Zocku on Friday 20th February 2009 12:02pm
  • You can choose if you would like to solely allow one e-mail domain to sign-up to your site, for instance if you only want students and teachers at your school to sign up to your network.
  • You can also do the opposite, and ban certain e-mail domains, for instance the domain of a rival business.
  • To do either of these actions, go to your admin centre, which can be accessed via your sidebar, or at http://my.zocku.com.
  • Click on the 'Access Settings' box.

  • Once inside 'Access Settings', go to the block titled "Limit registration by domain"

  • To allow only one e-mail domain, type in the domain, i.e. 'myschool.com'
  • To ban a domain, type in the domain with an exclamation mark infront of it, for instance, "!hotmail.com"

  • Don't forget to click 'Save Changes' to save your settings.
  • Now, if someone tries to sign-up with an e-mail address you have banned, the user will see this message:
